Religious Education

Role of the Parents in Religious Education

"Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years.  This already happens when the family help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel.  Family catechisms precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith.  Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.  The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christion families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents" (p.595 Catechism of the Catholic Church)

There for, it is highly recommended that parents:

  • Attend Mass with their children on a regular basis.

  • Have children arrive on time to weekly religious education classes.

  • Make an effort to hear your children's prayers and pray with them.

  • Attend monthly PF4 events as a family.

  • Work with child(ren) on Faith Formation sessions.

  • Talk with child(ren) about weekly religious education lessons.

  • Bring child(ren) of age to reconciliation twice a year.
